This week is BTS week on ellentube, the hotspot for videos related to and shown on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen DeGeneres is one of America’s most beloved and recognizable faces; if everyone in Korea knows about BTS, then everyone in the United States knows about Ellen DeGeneres.
BTS week on ellentube coincides with the release of BTS’ highly anticipated forthcoming album Love Yourself: Answer. Ellentube has carried featured weeks before (including Pride, Oceans 8, and the Kardashians) but they’ve never tackled a week like this before. Love Yourself: Answer is one of the year’s most anticipated albums and in a country starved for BTS home-born promotion, BTS week is a definite, American ARMY appeal.
The first episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired September 8th, 2003, when Jungkook was barely six years old and ten years away from debuting as a member of BTS. Since then, the show has won fifty-nine Emmy awards and averages four million viewers an episode. The show racks in twenty-seven million YouTube subscribers, making it one of the most subscribed-to channels on YouTube.

Ellen DeGeneres placed a good amount of faith in BTS by having them be the feature for ellentube. Ellen DeGeneres and her respective team have spent fifteen years building a show her audience can turn to for quality entertainment and culture coverage. BTS has made enough of a reputation for themselves that one of daytime’s most beloved stars decided to devote a week of her resources to praising their very name. BTS stands to gain the awareness of the average American. Ellen’s efforts will catalyze their progression towards becoming a household name.
In previous featured weeks, the stars of the weeks themselves have made appearances. With The Ellen Show’s Justin Bieber week, Bieber himself appeared to answer questions about dating and gave a special acoustic performance. The saga’s stars (Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner) made an appearance for Twilight week.
BTS has no aversion to being on the show (they’ve appeared twice before) but with their upcoming album and tour, it’s unlikely they’ll make a personal appearance. A personal appearance is hoped for, yet implausible, though BTS sending in a video specifically for BTS week wouldn’t be unprecedented. If BTS appears, it’s likely going to be through some kind of digital format. BTS isn’t on the ellentube schedule for this week.
Ellentube hasn’t wasted time in kicking BTS week off to a good start. With days left in BTS week on ellentube, it’s unsure of what to expect. BTS content, of course, but if there’s no actual BTS themselves, what kinds of things can Ellen debut that ARMY has never seen before?

This is BTS’ third connection with Ellen in less than a year. One Direction spanned their own three views over the space of three years, for comparison. Time-wise, BTS’ visits are more frequent than most recurring guests on Ellen’s show. The Korean boyband and the comedian are comfortable friends by now, if not in the least acquaintances. Each visit to the Ellen show is accompanied by showers of compliments and BTS inclusions of some of Ellen’s most beloved segments; her jump scares, music performances, Ellen’s Show Me More Show. Ellen loves having BTS on her show, and with good reason. Not only do their appearances pull in views due to ARMY attraction, they also know how to put on a show while still maintaining their charismatic and polite selves.

Elllentube edifies the revelation that this week is about to be one of the the biggest weeks of BTS’ career. Love Yourself: Answer is a topping to BTS’ first number one on the Billboard 200 and first venture into the top ten of the Hot 100 with Love Yourself: Tear. The BTS world tour that launches in Seoul on Saturday of this week is set to fill almost one million seats in more than half a dozen countries.
If daytime America hadn’t paid attention to BTS before, we know Ellen had her eyes on them the whole time. Maybe BTS week wasn’t the thing we needed to know Ellen was rooting for BTS all along. Maybe it was just the thing we needed to realize it.
