Fake Love has been certified Gold by the RIAA!
The Recording Industry Association of America certified the song as Gold on August 8 of this year.
In order for a song to be certified Gold by the RIAA, the song must obtain 500,000 Units. One digital download counts as one Unit for certification purposes. Buying the song isn’t the only way to rank up Units, though; 150 streams counts as one Unit as well.
Fake Love is the third BTS song to be certified gold, the first being “Mic Drop” and the second “DNA”. Both “Mic Drop” and “DNA” are title tracks from BTS’s release Love Yourself: Her. Both were certified in early February. BTS is the first Korean act to have three RIAA certifications.
#FakeLoveWentGold trended worldwide on Twitter in celebration of the certification.
Besides Gold, songs can also be certified as Platinum (1,000,000 units), Multi-Platinum (2,000,000 units) and Diamond (10,000,000 units).
The RIAA also certifies albums.
The RIAA represents the recording industry in the United States and plays a part in 85% of the nation’s legally created and distributed music.
